JENNIFER KELLER: The Slippery Rock University assistant professor and Pittsburgh dance favorite of dance called to say that she is performing with Pennsylvania Dance Theatre this Friday, July 10, in State College. The performance, tears cries time, will take place at the State Theatre at 8 p.m. PDT is directed by Andre Koslowski, former member of Dance Alloy, and he has continued the dance theatre tradition that has long been a part of this central Pennsylvania company. Keller relates that she and Koslowski will perform “Devils,” inspired by a Kristof Penderecki opera, “The Devils of Loudun,” with an extravagant plexiglass set by Susana Amundarain. Coincidentally, it’s a great time to take in the Central PA Festival of the Arts, which runs through Sunday. The festival attracts over 125,000 visitors annually and I hear it is well worth the trip.
ARTS ADVOCACY: It appears that the PA state legislature is proposing more cuts, which could involve zero funding for the arts and the elimination of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. It’s important to visit Citizens for the Arts in PA website, where you can contact your legislators and sign the Save the Arts petition.
